Two years ago, Anuga saw the successful launch of Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky which is now listed worldwide in the UK, Canada, UAE and France.

Wild West Jerky will also be at the show in its contemporary packaging and look and feel, with enticing flavours and recipes, including beef jerky, salmon jerky and chicken jerky.

The Speyside Smokehouse salmon jerky range, is crafted on the banks of the River Spey in the Scottish Highlands.greataste-01

The jerky uses Scottish Atlantic farmed salmon and follows the same jerky making methods as their Wild West Jerky range.  This jerky offers consumers the perfect alternative to red meat, that is a lighter, gluten-free substitute to other dried meat snacks without compromising on flavour.

Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky range is available in three tantalizing flavours: Sea Salt & Black Pepper, Sweet Chilli Pepper and Teriyaki.

Cruga Biltong wins Gold at Design Effectiveness Awards

At a glittering awards ceremony in London on the 12th June 2019, Cruga Biltong picked up a Gold Award at the Design Effectiveness Awards for their recent re-branding work completed by branding agency Pearlfisher.Cruga range

The brief to the redesign was that Pearlfisher needed to deliver an inspiring strategic and creative direction for Cruga Biltong that solidified the brand’s premium position. The new “Authentically African” positioning brings a true appreciation of meat boldly to the fore, and the design captures the artisanal, expert process of making biltong.

Despite a raft of new competitors that entered the market since the redesign, Cruga Biltong has achieved outstanding results against its objectives.

Cruga Biltong is enjoying growth in the market and the bold design gives great stand out especially in convenience and impulse categories.  Market share jumped from 18% to 40% in the first 28 weeks after launch in 2018. And with value and volume sales up 161% and 173% respectively.  Now the brand is using the growth to raise awareness for Save the Rhino International and donating a min 1p per pack throughout 2019 to the cause.

Great Taste Awards for Salmon Jerky

Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2018 and we’ve got three!

Out of over 12,600 products to be judged, we have been awarded three, 1-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it a food that delivers fantastic flavour for its Wild West Sea Salt & Black Pepper Salmon Jerky, Speyside Smokehouse Sweet Chilli Pepper and Teriyaki Salmon Jerky.  The judge’s comments included ‘A very innovative product. This tastes like a key ingredient for a long Viking voyage! Dense & intense. Really innovative.’

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

The panel of judges this year included; MasterChef 2018 champion, Kenny Tutt, chef and food writer, Elly Curshen, eco chef and food writer, Tom Hunt, author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, baker Tom Herbert, author and blogger, Izy Hossack, and baker and recipe writer, Martha Collison, as well as food buyers from Harrods, Selfridges and Sourced Market. These esteemed palates have together tasted and re-judged the 3-star winners to finally agree on the Golden Fork Trophy winners and the Great Taste 2018 Supreme Champion.

Great Taste 2018 will reach its exciting finale on Sunday 2 September, when the world of fine food gathers at the InterContinental Park Lane Hotel, Londonto find out the Great Taste Golden Fork trophy winners for each region, with the final applause reserved for the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2018.

Salmon jerky extends the range of high protein snacks from the Meatsnacks Group which includes beef and chicken jerky and beef biltong.  Salmon jerky is high in protein and Omega3 and also gluten free with lower calories.  Wild West Salmon jerky is only 119 calories per pack and perfect for many dietary requirements.

Wild West Salmon Jerky was developed in-house at the Meatsnacks Group. It launched nationwide into Sainsbury’s in January 2018 and is now exported to Europe, Hong Kong and Canada.

Krave Pots Beef Jerky & BiltongMeatsnacks Group is launching meat snacking pots under new brand, KRAVE. This new branding challenges the perceptions of jerky and biltong, bringing this exciting category to a new consumer, in a new format for front of store and at till points.

These pots have been created to attract a new consumer that fits within guidelines for front of store and are under 100 calories per pack.

Consumer are looking for a more social foodie snack that delivers more in terms of flavour experience. They’re looking for healthier, tastier options, especially when it comes to protein. KRAVE by Meatsnacks Group is a new contemporary brand targeting the fitness, health and nutritional conscious consumer.

The dynamic, fresh design highlights key on-pack messages: Calories per pack, Grass fed beef, %age protein, Handcrafted as well as key ingredients.

KRAVE snack pots are launching in two flavours:

  • KRAVE Szechuan Pepper and Ginger Salt Beef Jerky
  • KRAVE Warm Chimichurri Beef Biltong

KRAVE Warm Chimichurri Biltong contains only 78 calories per 28g pot and has 54% protein.  The biltong is made from grass fed beef silverside steak. KRAVE Szechuan Pepper & Ginger Salt Jerky contains only 90 calories per 28g pot and has 36% protein.  The jerky is made from British and Irish beef silverside steak.

Meatsnacks Group is a Finalist for Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award

Meatsnacks Group is celebrating after being announced as finalists for the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2018.

Shortlisted in the Confectionery, Drink and Snacking Award category for the Speyside Smokehouse Salmon Jerky range.  The salmon jerky is high in Omega 3, high in protein and gluten free and made using Scottish farmed Atlantic Salmon fillets that have been marinated and slowly cooked and smoked over beech wood.  The salmon jerky is made in a former smoked salmon factory on the banks of the River Spey in the Scottish Highlands.

The product was developed in-house to ensure that the salmon fillets made a true jerky texture and taste.  With consumers looking to gain protein from natural sources and the increasing popularity of salmon, jerky is a convenient option to enjoy salmon on the go as it doesn’t need refrigerated and has a shelf life of 12 months.

Winners from all 26 categories will be announced in front of 800 guests at the prestigious awards ceremony and dinner on Thursday 7 June at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).

Wild West Jerky explores new multi-pack format.

Wild West Beef Jerky MultipackWe’ve launched Wild West Jerky in a new multi-pack format.  This new packaging format includes 300g of beef jerky that easily tears into 3 individual 100g sharing bag portions.

This new pack format has launched into Costco nationwide and fulfils multiple consumer needs from the big night in, to store cupboard staple snack.  Allowing the meat snacker consumers to buy their jerky in value bags and keep it fresh in smaller pack sizes.

The Commonwealth Games are here, already!

It seems like yesterday we were watching the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and it was one of the most successful games for the home nations too.  But this year we turn our focus to the Gold Coast, Australia for what will no doubt be another action-packed game and Usain Bolt won’t be subjected to the Scottish weather when he watches the 100m finals!

Our athletes have spent the last four years training hard for this with an Olympics and numerous World and European Champions thrown in too.

Nutrition is one of the key aspects of being an athlete.  On top of the skill, dedication and focus that is required to complete on the world stage.

Athletes don’t just need a healthy balanced diet, they also need high protein and carb levels to ensure that they have the energy and recovery fuel on board day in day out.

Public Health England’s “One You” campaign suggests you should eat:

low calories

 

And snacks should be under 100 calories.

Compare that to an athlete that is consuming around 5000 calories a day- that’s quite a difference.  But as we are hoping to beat previous games medal achievements, our teams will need all the fuel the can get to reach the following targets:
