The jerky was awarded a 1-star Great Taste award, which means the judges dubbed it simply delicious and the judges commented ‘Great appearance. Sweet on the palate, but not too chewy, the beef comes through. The applewood smoke is good too, Deep and darkly coloured jerky’.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
We entered our jerky to recognise that it is made using beef silverside that is mainly UK and Irish provenance. To make the beef jerky we use whole cuts of hand trimmed silverside beef, which is marinated for 24 hours at the production facility in Forres, then slowly cooked and smoked over Applewood.
Our marinade uses everyday kitchen store cupboard ingredients such as Kikkoman soy sauce, Aspalls Cyder Vinegar, Rowse honey, tomato puree, apple juice and black pepper. The Jerky is also additive and preservative free with no added MSG and is also classed as gluten free. It also contains 28.2g per 100g of protein.
